How to read a score

90–100

good

50–89

needs work

0–49

poor

These are the thresholds Google uses itself. A 100 is nice, but not a goal in itself: above 90, a visitor rarely notices any difference.

Why your mobile score is lower

On mobile, Google measures with a slower phone and a slower mobile network, as many visitors really have. A lower mobile score is normal. It does count most: Google mainly looks at the mobile version of your site to decide where you appear.

The four scores

1. 01

   Speed

   How quickly your main content appears, and whether the page stays still while it loads. Good means: the largest text or photo on screen within 2.5 seconds, and almost no content jumping around.

2. 02

   Accessibility

   Whether everyone can use your site, including people with a disability: enough contrast, descriptions for photos, clear buttons and forms with labels.

3. 03

   Search

   The basics Google needs: a title and description per page, links Google can follow, a page that adapts to a phone.

4. 04

   Best practices

   Whether your site is built safely and carefully: https, no errors in the background, photos in the right proportions.

Why your score can vary

Two measurements in a row rarely give exactly the same result. The network, ads and embedded services such as chat windows load a little differently each time. Look at the level, not a one-point difference, and measure again if in doubt.

What the check does not measure

• Whether your copy convinces and whether visitors become customers.
• How your real visitors experience your site; for that you need Analytics and Search Console.
• Your Google Business Profile and your reviews.
